Varsity Head Coach - Pete Van Zandt
R. Peter VanZandt joins the Severna Park High School staff as the Golf Team’s Coach. Coach VanZandt has a wealth of golfing experience.
Coach VanZandt began playing competitive golf at Greece Arcadia High School in Rochester, New York where he earned 4 varsity letters, 1967 - 1970. During his high school career, Coach VanZandt was also the Junior Club Champion at the Braemar Country Club, in Spencerport, two years in a row and the runner-up in the Monroe District Junior Championship in 1969.
In college, at Niagara University, Coach VanZandt earned 2 varsity letters, in 1973 & 1974.
Coach VanZandt remained competitive after college and was the Men’s Champion at the Braemar Country Club in 1987, 1989, 1991, 1992, and 1994. In 2005, he won the Rattlewood MAPGA Pro-Am, beating 144 other competitors for the title.
Coach VanZandt was the coordinator of the Crofton Country Club’s junior golf program from 1995 to 2001. In that capacity, he was responsible for development of junior golfers; teaching them rules of play and golf etiquette. During his tenure, Crofton junior golfers won 3-straight Adams Division titles.
From 1997 to 2001, Coach VanZandt was also the Commissioner of Baseball for the Severna Park Green Hornets. He oversaw a program with 800 players and was responsible for the coordination of facilities, procurement of equipment, and umpiring.
