Varsity Head Coach - Carrie Weimer
Weimer Takes Over SPHS Girls Basketball Program

Carrie Weimer, 26, was recently named the new Severna Park High School (SPHS) Girls Basketball Coach after serving two years as an assistant under Dave Griffith. The departing Griffith went 44-29 in three seasons at SPHS, including a trip to the region finals in 2004-05.
"I'm very excited about the opportunity," stated Weimer. "Just being with this group for the past two years I've gotten to know the girls pretty well. You learn their tendencies and what motivates them. I feel like I've already developed a good rapport with the players."
Weimer takes over a program with plenty of experience and promise; the entire squad will return next year. With a solid foundation already intact, Weimer admits, "I don't plan on changing a whole lot of what Dave put in place, although I do have some new ideas."
According to the new Falcon coach, all five starters are dedicated to getting better and are currently participating in AAU basketball with the Hurricanes, coached by Matt Griffith. "We're looking forward to a very successful season next year," added Weimer, a former four-year basketball player at Division III Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA.
Upon graduating from Shenandoah in 2001, Weimer went straight to grad school at the University of Virginia where she earned a Master's Degree in Sports and Exercise Psychology. During grad school she taught undergrad and basketball classes and helped with youth and summer league teams, which is where she gained her first exposure to coaching.
It was only a matter of time before the basketball enthusiast got another chance at the helm. The sport runs deep in her blood even though Weimer never discovered it until she started playing for her high school team. Her father has refereed for 35 years and her kid sister Brooke, who played at McDaniel College, is the girls JV coach at Tuscarora High School in Frederick.
"I originally got into gymnastics and then got tall, so I started playing basketball," she confessed. "Gymnastics was a good base because of the weight lifting and staying in great shape. That definitely helped make the transition into high school basketball easier."
Ever since Weimer first got involved with basketball, coaching has been her "ultimate goal." She gained a great deal of perspective from her father and sister and is ready to fulfill her burning passion, as she looks to do great things at Severna Park. While on the bench she paid close attention to other coaches and how they handled certain situations, and thought, "I really want to do that."
Weimer currently lives in Annapolis and has been the full-time Physical Education teacher at Pasadena Elementary School for two years. She also teaches at Broadneck Elementary two afternoons a week.
Her assistant coaching positions at Severna Park have yet to be filled, but she's not worried. "It's only April and there's still plenty of time to fill the spots. I just hope other teachers step in to help," concluded Weimer.
